dc.description.abstract | Species of the hymenopterous genus Trichogramma occur world wide on a broad range of crops and hosts. Research on the use of this tiny wasp in biological control started at the turn of the century and a method to mass produce Trichogranza on eggs of the Angoumois grain moth Sitotroga cerelella was developed in 1930 in the USA. Later, similar mass production methods using the eggs of other lepidoptera storage insects pests gave rise to a world wide use of this parasite as a biological control agent. At present, about 18 different Trichogramm species are being mass reared to control pests on 18 million hectares in 16 countries. in this chapter, a methods to mass produce Sitotroga cerelella is describes | |
